“Merlin” (10 p.m., Syfy): Beware of giant slugs. In the first of a two-part series finale of “Merlin,” Morgana and Mordred (Katie McGrath, Alexander Vlahos) use one of the creepy crawlers to rob our hero (Colin Morgan) of his magic.

First Night seeks entertainers, artists

YOUNGSTOWN

Performing artists are being sought for First Night Youngstown 2014.

This annual family- friendly, alcohol-free event takes place in downtown Youngstown on New Year’s Eve. Performances take place at various venues, including 20 Federal Place, the Masonic Temple, First Presbyterian Church, and more. Acts geared toward families and children take place early in the evening. The event begins at approximately 5:30 p.m. and ends at midnight. Performing artists of all types are encouraged to apply.

YSU arts festival seeks volunteers

YOUNGSTOWN

The 15th annual Summer Festival of the Arts, July 13-14 at and around Youngstown State University, is seeking volunteers for artist registration; information booths; the children’s hands-on art tent; technical assistance at performance sites and at the Festival of Nations international area. Various shifts are available. Each volunteer receives a festival T-shirt, cold water and reserved free parking. Service verification forms will be completed.
