The Austintown Lions Club had their 18th annual 5K run at Austintown Township Park May 11.

Serving as Chairman for the event for all 18 years was Lions Club president Larry Jensen. The weather was cool as 84 runners finished the race, which was proceeded by a children’s race, won by 8-year old James Baer of Leetonia.

Spitzer Chevrolet of North Jackson was a key sponsor and displayed a new Chevy Camaro convertible and a Chevy Cruze at the race site.

The overall winner was Justin Boggs from Alliance with a time of 15:49, followed by Patrick Ferguson of Austintown in second place with a time of 16:29. Finishing in third place was Matt Marlowe from Warren with a time of 17:55.

For the women, Amanda Fire of Canfield came in first with a time of 19:14, Gianna Stanich of Poland came in second with a time of 19:25 and finishing in third was Jaclynn Choma of Austintown with a time of 21:02.

For the overall masters category (age 40 and above), Tom Grantonic of Boardman came in first place with a time of 18:07, Robert Younger of Boardman took in second with a time of 19:11 and finishing in third was Don Peate of Struthers with a time of 19:22.

Pamela Byers from Warren finished first with a time of 23:06 in the women masters category. Placing second was Maureen Shann from Canfield with a time of 23:44 and finishing in third place was Renay Rhoma of Austintown with a time of 23:55.

The finish line was provided by the Youngstown Road Runners Club. Proceeds from this event will go to Lions projects and the community.
