Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge John Durkin on Monday denied bond for a pair of men indicted last week on superseding indictments for the deaths of two people last September on the East Side.

Judge Durkin will have a pretrial hearing at 1:30 p.m. next Tuesday for Dewaylyn Colvin, 31, of Nelson Avenue and Michael Austin Jr., 19, of Midland Avenue.

Last week, a grand jury handed up superseding indictments against the two on charges of aggravated murder with specifications that a firearm was used to commit the crimes in the deaths of Keith Ryan Slade, 20, of Cornell Avenue and Keara McCullough, 19, of Clearmont Avenue. They were found shot to death in a car on Benford Lane last September.

Police said it appeared Slade had been targeted and McCullough was an innocent bystander.

The pair already are facing murder charges in two separate deaths in 2011, and Austin faces an additional attempted-murder charge involving a December 2012 shooting.

Colvin already is serving 11 years in prison on drug charges after being convicted earlier this year in common pleas court.
