The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s mobile outreach center visits the Youngstown unit of the NAACP on Friday to accept complaints of employment discrimination based on race, religion, sex, national origin, age (40 and older), disability or retaliation.

The EEOC considers retaliation the firing of a worker who complained about job discrimination, gave evidence in a job discrimination matter or filed a charge of job discrimination with the commission.

The unit prefers appointments, but officials said walk-ins are welcome. The local unit of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is at 16 Wick Ave., Suite 721, in the old PNC Bank Building, downtown.

Banquet planned

United Methodist Community Center, a nonprofit organization, will sponsor a recognition banquet from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at The Georgetown in Boardman.

The United Methodist Community Center operates sites at 139 E. Boardman St., Youngstown, and 760 Main Ave. SW, Warren.

Participants in the B.I.L.L. (Building Individual Life Lessons) and G.A.I.L. (Getting Ahead in Life) programs, which are geared to students in third through 12th grades in Youngstown and Warren schools, will be honored along with karate students in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

Dealing with grief

“Good Grief” at Camp Frederick, 6996 Millrock Road, is July 28 through Aug. 2 and offers a combination of therapeutic activities, swimming, hiking, challenge course activities and crafts. Youths will have a chance to share their loss and realize they are not alone in their struggle with grief and that their feelings are normal and natural.

They will learn coping skills that help deal with the multiple losses in life and build self-esteem.

Collaborators include representatives from Good Hope Lutheran Church North Lima, All Caring Hospice, the Butler Art Museum, Kids’ Grieve Too and other professionals. For information or an application, call 330-227-3633.

Shredding day

New Middletown

New Middletown Village Council will have a shred-it day from 10 a.m. to noon June 1 behind the municipal building. It is open to all area residents.
