Ohio-owned items to be publicly auctioned Saturday

COLUMBUS (AP) — A commercial freezer, refrigerator and other appliances are among the state-owned items available for bid at a weekend auction in Ohio.

The Ohio Department of Administrative Services also is auctioning office furniture and electronic equipment on Saturday in Columbus.

State agencies declare property as surplus because it’s damaged or at the end of its life cycle for government use.

The auctions give the state a chance to recoup a portion of its initial investment when people buy the goods at reduced prices. Miscellaneous property and vehicle auctions generated more than $3.6 million last budget year.

The items may include those seized by law enforcement officials. They are first made available to other agencies, municipal corporations, public schools and other entities before being sold to the public.
