Man gets life in Ohio pawn shop shootings

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A judge in Ohio has sentenced a Michigan man to consecutive life prison sentences for the slaying of a pawn shop manager and the death of an accomplice during a robbery.

Prosecutors said 48-year-old Darren Taylor was one of three men who tried to rob a pawn shop near Dayton in December 2011. During the robbery, they say, Taylor fatally shot store manager Ilya Golub — and Golub shot would-be robber Anthony McClain.

Prosecutors said McClain likely died during the drive back to Detroit, despite passing several hospitals.

The Dayton Daily News reports that a jury earlier this spring found Taylor, of Southfield, Mich., guilty of murder and other charges in connection with both deaths.

He’ll spend at least 36 years in prison before being eligible for parole.
