Growing up Mexican in Brier Hill

LIBERTY

Civic leader Frank Nolasco will discuss his experiences as a Mexican-American growing up in Youngstown’s Brier Hill neighborhood at 10 a.m. Saturday at Kravitz’s Delicatessen, 3135 Belmont Ave.

The program is sponsored by the Ethnic Heritage Society.

Nolasco’s presentation will describe ways in which people of different backgrounds cooperated and learned from each other in a district hosting Italian Americans, African-Americans, Polish Americans and others.

He indicated that Brier Hill remains a personal model of positive multicultural interaction.

A native of Zamora Michoacan, Mexico, Nolasco grew up on Youngstown’s North Side in the 1950s and returned to the community after a four-year stint in the Air Force.

The program is open to the public, and admission is $5, which includes refreshments.
