Liberty cops seize guns, pot

Police found two loaded handguns in a backpack and seven small bags of marijuana after being called to a home at 236 Laurel St. about 3:25 p.m. Saturday for an argument.

A man who lives there told police he was in an argument with his son, Cory Gill, 19, because he wanted to disconnect the Internet. Father and son accused each other of pushing them, police reports said.

The father told police his son had two long guns in the house and was concerned that he would use them. Gill led police to his closet, where they found a rifle and a shotgun.

Gill’s brother then told police his brother had two handguns in a backpack that was in their mother’s car. Gill admitted he had the guns in the pack, was handcuffed, and searched. Police found a small bag of marijuana in his pockets while he was searched, reports said.

Police got the pack out of the car and found a loaded .22-caliber revolver and loaded .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun and six bags of marijuana. Police reports said Gill told officers he had bought the guns “off the street’’ and he had quit selling drugs because of extra police patrols that arrested several of his customers.

Gill was arrested on two counts of carrying concealed weapons and trafficking in marijuana, which are felonies, and two additional counts of underage purchase of a gun, which is a misdemeanor.

He pleaded innocent to the misdemeanors at his arraignment in Girard Municipal Court on Monday and did not enter a plea to the other charges. He is free after posting 10 percent of $15,000 bond.

Court records show a preliminary hearing has not been set yet.
