Police are identifying a suspect in the shooting of 19 people during a Mother’s Day parade in New Orleans.

Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas said Monday night that they were looking for 19-year-old Akein Scott. He says multiple people identified Scott as the shooter.

Three gunshot victims remained in critical condition Monday, though their wounds didn’t appear to be life-threatening.

Most of the injured have been released from the hospital.

Lawyers: Holmes wants to change plea

Lawyers for Colorado theater shooting suspect James Holmes formally told a judge on Monday that he wants to change his plea to not guilty by reason of insanity after outside experts diagnosed his mental illness.

The attorneys did not specify the diagnosis.

A judge entered a standard not-guilty plea on Holmes’ behalf in March, and he needs court permission to change it.

Holmes is charged with more than 160 counts of murder and attempted murder in the July 20 shootings that left 12 people dead and 70 injured.

Records show Ohio man faced complaints

A man charged with holding three women captive for about a decade had been accused of threatening his neighbors, attacking his common-law wife and committing violations during his career as a school-bus driver, according to records released Monday.

The Cleveland police reports correspond with accounts provided by relatives of suspect Ariel Castro last week that portrayed a man prone to violent outbursts, especially when it came to the mother of his children and incursions onto his property.

Castro, 52, is charged with kidnapping and rape, but prosecutors expect to file more charges.

Judge: Iraq killings were premeditated

A military judge found Army Sgt. John Russell guilty of premeditated murder Monday in the 2009 killings of five fellow service members at a combat stress clinic in Iraq.

Russell faces a sentencing phase of his court martial to determine whether he will face life in prison with or without the possibility of release.

The 14-year veteran from Sherman, Texas, had pleaded guilty to unpremeditated murder in exchange for prosecutors taking the death penalty off the table.

Dad wants evidence in girl’s stabbing

The father of a 12-year-old boy accused of fatally stabbing his 8-year-old sister said Monday he will believe his son is innocent until he sees evidence that proves otherwise.

Barney Fowler told The Associated Press the family is backing the boy, who was arrested Saturday after a crime that terrified this Central California foothill community.

The boy told investigators April 27 that he encountered a random attacker in the family home while his father was at a Little League game. He described the man as tall with long gray hair.

The boy said the man fled on foot and he found his sister, Leila Fowler, bleeding.

Residents say the Fowlers are good neighbors who never caused any problems.
