Warren lives up to its Relay reputation

With at least 74 teams and more than 1,100 participants, the Relay for Life at the Courthouse Square downtown over the weekend helped bring cancer awareness to another area.

It also reinforced the Warren relay’s reputation as among the largest and most successful in Ohio.

The teams and participants raised at least $207,030, according to preliminary numbers on the Relay for Life website for the event. The numbers are not final and more donations could be added to that number, according to the website.

Top participants at the event were Robert Antenucci, who raised $12,835; Kathleen Shirley, who raised $6,750; and Mary Jane Stroup, who raised $2,006.

General Motors Lordstown’s Women in Manufacturing topped the team donations with $18,146, followed by Vlad Pediatrics with $17,750 and Brodell Medical with $15,111.

The Warren Relay event was the third Valley relay this spring. The Niles relay in April raised $58,558. Relay for Life of Youngstown on April 19 brought in $41,756 for cancer research.

This Friday and Saturday, the Boardman Relay for Life takes place at Center Middle School stadium.
