Larry Kagan, noted sculptor, uses steel, light and shadow as a creative medium. Kagan has one of the keenest eyes in the art world for his creations.
By carefully bending and welding wire, he shapes and designs art into shadow objects that make the viewer almost in awe of what he has done.
Looking more like tumbleweed of wires and welds, he transforms the steel into a rabbit, man, or pair of shoes in shadow images.
They’re eerie and downright astonishing. Kagan sees structures in another dimension. He uses his eye and hand to put up one of the most remarkable exhibits at the Butler Institute of American Art on Wick Avenue.
His work is on display through Aug. 25 in the art institute’s Beecher Center Wing.
According to his website, Larry is a longtime professor of art at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. He maintains studios in Troy and in New York City.
