Funds being raised for congressman’s son

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell and former Philadelphia Mayor Wilson Goode are raising money to help pay the legal bills for a congressman’s son who has been under federal investigation for months.

Chaka “Chip” Fattah Jr. is the son of U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah, a Democrat who represents Philadelphia and some of its suburbs.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports former Gov. Ed Rendell and former Mayor W. Wilson Goode have launched a fundraising effort to pay the younger Fattah’s legal bills. Rendell says the congressman contacted him for help.

He says the congressman and his wife have already put spent $250,000 to help their 30-year-old son, who has denied any wrongdoing. The investigation became public in February 2012 when federal agents raided the younger Fattah’s offices downtown.
