Former school board member charged with DUI

YOUNGSTOWN

A former Youngstown City School board member will be back in Youngstown Municipal Court June 17 for a pretrial on a single charge of driving under the influence.

Anthony Catale, 26, of Bears Den Road, appeared Monday in municipal Court for arraignment on the misdemeanor charge. He pleaded not guilty and was given a personal recognizance bond and the new court date.

At about 3 a.m., Saturday police were called to McDonald’s on Fifth Avenue on a report of a man in the drive-through, asleep in his vehicle. Police knocked on the car windows to wake Catale and when he opened the car door, they smelled alcohol, a police report states.

Catale could not stand without leaning on his car and refused a breathalyzer test.

Catale served one term on Youngstown Board of Education, including two years as president. He didn’t seek re-election to the board and ran unsuccessfully for a city council seat in 2011.
