Justice Department sues Chemed Corp.

CINCINNATI

The Department of Justice has sued Chemed Corp., saying it and its Vitas hospice business submitted tens of millions of dollars in false Medicare claims for patients who were supposed to be receiving emergency services.

The department says Vitas Hospice and Vitas Healthcare submitted claims for services that weren’t needed, weren’t provided, or were provided to patients who weren’t eligible under Medicare requirements. It says the companies set goals for the number of crisis-care days to be billed and pressured their employees to submit more claims so it would get more revenue. The agency said Medicare payments for crisis care can be hundreds of dollars greater than typical hospice-care payments.

Texas Roadhouse to open in Niles

niles

Texas Roadhouse, the popular franchise steak house, will open in the Eastwood Mall Complex’s Howland Commons section this fall. The new 7,400-square-foot restaurant will be built on a parcel near Gander Mountain.

The mall also announced that it has donated two green moray eels and a leopard shark to the World Aquarium in St. Louis, freeing up more room in the facility’s aquarium.

The largest of the eels was an original inhabitant of the aquarium when it opened in 2007 and had grown too large and aggressive.

Knowing that the smaller eel eventually would follow suit and that the leopard shark also was growing, it was determined that a larger habitat would be in the best interest of all three animals.
