The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Canfield Post is investigating a crash that killed a bicyclist.

J.R. Hollobaugh, 53, was trying to ride his bicycle out of his driveway to travel west on Pine Lake Road in the township about 3:30 p.m. Friday when he was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado driven by Boe Endicott, 25, of Salem. The truck was traveling west on Pine Lake.

Hollobaugh was pronounced dead at Salem Community Hospital. Endicott wasn’t injured.

Help for constituents

New Castle, Pa.

U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., said his staff will have a casework day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at Lawrence County Courthouse, 430 Court St. , hosted by Lawrence County commissioners.

Toomey’s staff, including his constituent advocate Shawn Conway, will be available to help residents who are having problems with federal agencies, with special interest in veterans. Constituents are encouraged to bring documents they have received from federal agencies related to their issues.

Domestic violence bill

State Rep. Robert F. Hagan and Sister Patricia McNicholas, senior development director of Beatitude House, a community nonprofit that addresses the needs of disadvantaged women and children, will conduct a press conference at 2 p.m. Monday in the Mahoning County Courthouse to discuss new legislation addressing handguns in domestic-violence cases.

The press conference is to discuss House Bill 160, legislation intended to prevent intimate partner homicides by temporarily separating an aggressor from their firearm. Hagan and McNicholas want to discuss ways to prevent future tragedies.

Hartford cleanup

Hartford Township will have a spring cleanup from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Items accepted include tires not covered in mud or dirt (no tractor or truck tires); water heaters; stoves; washers; dryers; lead-acid batteries only; refrigerators and other goods.

Any items with Freon must have it removed before bringing to the cleanup. No paints, oils, liquid chemicals or household garbage will be taken. The cleanup is for township residents only. For information, call the township at 330-772-6186.

Recycle electronics

Howland

Howland Township, along with Howland Middle School Destination Imagination, is hosting a Community Electronics Recycling Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Drop-off location is Richard E. Orwig gazebo parking lot.

Monitors, TVs, stereos, cellular phones, telephones, digital cameras, desktop computers, fax machines, printers, DVD players, VCRs, and many other electronics will be accepted free of charge.

The funds from donations to be recycled will go directly toward Howland Destination Imagination’s travel costs as they will be competing in the Destination Imagination Global Competition in Knoxville, Tenn., later this month. For information on what items will be accepted, call 330-652-7711.
