The Youngstown State football coaching camps start in June.

Urban Meyer to appear at Covelli Centre

Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer will be the keynote speaker at the United Way Champions Among Us dinner at the Covelli Centre on June 17.

In his first season at Ohio State, Meyer led the Buckeyes to a 12-0 mark.

Meyer is a two-time national champion winning coach.

Doors open at 5:15 p.m. with dinner an hour later.

Little Scrappers win GLBL tournament

The Mahoning Valley Little Scrappers won the championship of the Great Lakes Baseball League’s Early Bird Tournament.

Teams from New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio competed in the 10U division.

Team members are Connor Meyer, Dominic Parise, Anthony Massucci, Nicholas DeMonica, Jordan Sheehan, Austin Vogt, Austen Price, Brendon Kilpatrick, Elijah Taylor and Jared Mindek.

Barta rolls in BTM bowling tournament

Adam Barta of Girard had the lead in the Regular Singles bowling competition, which is hosted this year at the Grand Sierra Bowling Center in Reno.

Along with the singles lead, the 33-year-old right-hander also holds the lead in Regular Doubles, while placing in five of the top 10 spots in Doubles.

In the Singles competition Barta posted a 932 four-game total on games of 184-258-231-259.

Barta held the first and fourth doubles spots with Scott Pohl, Burnsville, MN at 1,848 and 1,807.

Sharon Speedway sets racing card

Sharon Speedway will present a six-division program on Saturday evening.

The card will include Governor Insurance Agency DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, Barris Supply RUSH Late Models, Summit Racing Equipment Modifieds, Gibson Insurance Agency Stock Cars, HTMA/Precise Racing Products Econo Mods and the Deforest Used Parts Mini Stocks.

Racing begins at 7 p.m.

Galati ties mark with fifth perfect game

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.

Hofstra’s Olivia Galati tied an NCAA Division I record by pitching her fifth career perfect game, and the Pride beat James Madison 8-0 Thursday to advance to the Colonial Athletic Association championship.

Galati (36-10) struck out 10 and threw just 62 pitches in game shortened to six innings because of rain.

A senior from West Babylon, N.Y., she tied Fordham’s Jen Mineau (2009-12) for the Division I perfect game record. Galati also threw perfect games against George Mason in 2011, North Carolina-Wilmington in 2012, and Towson and James Madison earlier this year.

Mine Over Matter wins Corma Ray Stakes

NEW YORK

Joel Rosario, who rode Orb to victory in the Kentucky Derby, guided Mine Over Matter to a one-length win in the mud Thursday at the $83,300 Corma Ray Stakes at Belmont Park.

A 6-year-old trained by Mike Hushion, Mine Over Matter improved to 7 for 39. Five of those wins have come on wet tracks.

Rosario captured the Derby in the mud last weekend, and splashed home a winner again.
