City has summer programs geared for youth

YOUNGSTOWN — City officials, along with community and faith-based leaders, said today there will be plenty of programs for Youngstown’s youth to keep them busy doing constructive and fun activities during the summer.

The programs will help keep kids avoid trouble, they said.

The programs range from various sports — including basketball, baseball, bowling, tennis, football and golf — to art and drama lessons to the city’s summer camp.

And they will be supervised by “character coaches,” who can help teach life lessons and how to make the right choices, said Guy Burney, coordinator of the city’s Community Initiative to Reduce Violence program.

The programs start June 17, and will be held throughout the city, he said.
