POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard and Liberty:

GIRARD

May 3

Fraud: An East Prospect Street woman discovered someone had hacked into her computer, allowing the person to make six unauthorized transactions to her bank account totaling $359.

Criminal mischief: Golf balls were thrown through a window at a residence in the 100 block of Crumlin Avenue.

Assault: Police on Crumlin Avenue arrested 19-year-old Joshua Meckulch, 131 Church Hill Road, Girard. He was wanted on an assault charge from Girard Municipal Court.

May 4

Assault: A Church Hill Road woman alleged a relative, who’s also her neighbor, pushed and punched her during an altercation pertaining to garage space.

Aggravated menacing: A North St. Clair Avenue man told police a neighbor threatened to beat him up during the latest in a series of ongoing problems between them.

Criminal mischief: Someone spray-painted a series of vulgarities on the front door and driveway to a home in the 100 block of Dearborn Avenue.

Theft: A $300 truck tarpaulin was stolen in the 200 block of East Prospect Street.

May 5

Theft: A set of electric hedge trimmers and an extension cord were taken from a residence in the 20 block of East Kline Street.

Harassment: A Church Hill Road man said a Lancaster, Pa., man has made and sent him numerous vulgar calls and text messages.

May 6

Assault: Police quelled a disturbance in the 1100 block of Woodlawn Avenue after several people reportedly tried to force a man off the property who, after an altercation, told officers he suffered back pain and minor injuries to his face.

Breaking and entering: Authorities responded to an alarm in the 700 block of North Highland Avenue and noticed a door ajar. Also, they found on a damaged roof a hand-held chisel, a flashlight and other possible criminal tools.

LIBERTY

April 30

Theft/forgery: A Fifth Avenue woman reported a stolen checkbook from which four checks were written, forged and cashed.

May 1

Drugs: Police in the 3500 block of Belmont Avenue took into custody 20-year-old Orre E. Shane of Norwalk, Ohio, who was wanted on a heroin-possession charge from that city.

Arrest: Authorities went to the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue to pick up Aphton Rheins, 26, of 213 Wirt St., Youngstown, on an outstanding township warrant.

May 2

Citation: Police assisting the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Unit at an Oakland Street apartment cited 58-year-old John A. Schulte, 2910 Oakland, Liberty, after saying a suspected crack-cocaine pipe was seen.

Theft: A 34-year-old Cortland man reportedly stole a $35 hair trimmer from Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave., and fled on foot to a nearby wooded area. The item was recovered.

Drugs: A traffic stop on Goldie Road led to a 17-year-old Liberty boy’s being charged with possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia when, police said, 1 gram of suspected marijuana and papers commonly used to roll marijuana were found. The teen was released to the custody of his mother.

May 3

Theft: A $75 concrete plant stand and a planter were removed from a yard in the 600 block of Ravine Drive.

Criminal damaging: A car in the 3400 block of Belmont Avenue was found with a damaged rear window.

Domestic violence/drugs: A situation on Ventura Drive led to domestic-violence and two misdemeanor drug charges against Alexis A. Logan, 19, and Robert G. Levitski, 22, both of 409 Ventura, Girard. Levitski alleged Logan had struck him and cut his left arm during an argument; Logan alleged Levitski had picked her up in a choke hold and tossed her about. Also, a bag of suspected marijuana, a suspected marijuana pipe and straws with suspected drug residue were found, police said.

Arrest: A traffic stop on Oakland Street resulted in 25-year-old Bruce Dawson’s arrest. Dawson, of 2920 Roy St., Youngstown, was wanted on a burglary charge from Austintown.

Recovered property: A Girard man’s driver’s license and credit card were found in the 2200 block of Tibbetts-Wick Road.

May 4

Robbery: Police answered a call about someone trying to steal a computer from Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, before charging 21-year-old Ryan L. Palm, 2128 Robbins Ave., Niles, with robbery and identity theft after alleging Palm, who also was wanted on an outstanding warrant, had fought with store personnel before being subdued. Also arrested was Robyn R. Elser, 28, of 131 Wilson Ave., Niles, on charges of complicity to robbery and identity theft.

Arrest: Authorities dealt with a possible breaking-and-entering situation in the 1700 block of Naylor-Lloyd Road, where they took Sarahann L. Oliver of 1721 Naylor-Lloyd, Girard, into custody. The 22-year-old Oliver was accused of failing to appear in court to face a larceny charge.

Recovered property: A Youngstown woman’s purse containing $373 and miscellaneous credit cards was found in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue.

May 5

Burglary: To a home in the 1600 block of Garfield Avenue. Missing were a .22-caliber revolver and a jar of change.

Arrest: Police in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue picked up 37-year-old Raul Magallon, 633 Fenton St., Niles. Magallon was wanted on a warrant pertaining to various traffic offenses.

Drugs: Officers responded to a vehicle in a ditch off Applegate Drive before charging Stephan A. Zurko, 27, of 509 Superior St., Hermitage, Pa., with operating a vehicle impaired and possession of a drug-abuse instrument. A hypodermic needle was in a cloth bag, a report showed.
