'Shield Detail' successful in Trumbull County

SOUTHINGTON

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office, Warren City Police Department, Niles City Police Department, Newton Falls Village Police Department, Ohio Investigative Unit, U.S. Marshals and the Trumbull County Adult Probation office partnered to conduct a two-day “Shield Detail” in Trumbull County on Friday and Saturday.

The initiative’s goal was to combine state and local resources to address traffic and criminal violations and apprehend felons in Trumbull County. The initiative was made up of four components: increased traffic patrols; criminal patrols; aggressive operating of a vehicle impaired enforcement; and warrant service.

Nearly 900 traffic stops were conducted during the detail, which resulted in more than 150 enforcement actions.

Partnering agencies arrested 18 drivers on OVI charges and issued 39 citations for seat-belt violations. An additional 40 drivers were arrested and charged with driving under suspension.

Officers also seized marijuana, cocaine, crack and prescription narcotics, which resulted in 21 drug- related arrests. One weapon was seized during the initiative.

During the detail, officers removed 18 felons from the community through successful service of 18 felony warrants.
