Sharon gets state grant to improve downtown district

SHARON, Pa.

The city of Sharon has been approved for a $292,500 Keystone Communities Public Improvement grant for work to revitalize and improve its downtown business district, according to Sen. Bob Robbins and Representative Mark Longietti.

The grant from the Department of Community and Economic Development will be used for steetscape work, including the installation of 80 new lamp posts and 80W LED luminaries lighting, as well as sidewalk and ADA accessibility improvements.

The $1.28 million project is also covered by an $805,000 PennDot grant and $190,000 in local funding. The goal of the revitalization effort is to create a positive atmosphere for economic growth and development in the downtown.
