Poland librarian Vikki Peck hosted a story time for 2- and 3-year-olds in the children’s room all about the zoo and zoo animals April 11. Peck began by reading “Peek-a-Zoo” by Marie Torres Cimarusti, which gave children to opportunity to guess which animal was hiding and to act like the animals discussed in the book. Other stories read at the story time were “I Dream of an Elephant” by Ami Rubinger and “Rhino’s Great Big Itch!” by Natalie Chivers, which was about a rhino that seeks the help of many of the larger animals to scratch his itch, but it is the smallest animal around that solves his problem.

Children also participated in different activities at the story time, like the “Animal Actions” song, in which children danced using animal actions, like flapping their wings, slithering like a snake, hopping like a frog, and swinging their trunks like elephants. “I’m a Little Monkey” was a finger-play activity that asked children to participate by mimicking different movements that monkeys do.

The story time ended with an elephant craft made from a paper plate and colored paper.
