The fifth annual “buy one, get one free” book fair was hosted by the PTA at West Boulevard Elementary School the week of April 22.

“We started offering the BOGO book fair at the end of the school year to promote summer reading,” said Alice Rhodes of the West Boulevard PTA. “The great thing is that Scholastic offers a summer reading program and it’s really convenient because you just log on to www.scholastic.com and record how many hours you spent reading each day. You can get into a world record, if you read enough.”

The book fair was offered throughout the week and included special opportunities for people to purchase books, like the family night. The BOGO book fair was unique in that it also contained books for teachers and adults, even offering some cookbooks for purchase.

“More people come to the BOGO book fair than any of the other book fairs of the year because they get more for their money,” said Rhodes. “When the students find out that it’s buy one, get one, they get very excited. I rely heavily on the parent volunteers here at West to help me out. It’s a blessing to have those individuals to help.”

Parent-volunteers were eager to help at the book fair, as well.

“I really enjoy volunteering for West Boulevard functions,” said PTA member Connie Spin. “It’s nice to see such friendly faces and to get to help people. This is a great school to volunteer for.”

The BOGO book fair is the last Scholastic book fair of the 2012-13 school year.
