“Sparky ... From Chicago,SDRq by J.E. Ballantyne Jr., Victorian Players and J&B Production Arts Services, Victorian Players Theater, 702 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, auditions at 7 p.m. May 13 and 14. The play examines the activities of Jack Ruby on the weekend of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963. Jack Ruby has been cast. Roles are available for men and women between age 20 and 60. Auditionees should be prepared to read from a script. The play is the second of three works at the Victorian Theater exploring the assassination of JFK. Rehearsals will begin in June. The production will run July 19 through Aug. 4. 330-799-6176.

“Hairspray,SDLq directed by John Zamarelli, Salem Community Theatre, 490 E. State St., Salem, auditions at 7 p.m. May 19 and 20. Actors, singers and dancers, age 16 and over, and several adult roles are needed. The play has a multiracial theme, therefore several African-American and/or Hispanic actors and actresses are needed. Auditionees should prepare a vocal selection; the preferred method is to take sheet music for the accompanist, but a CD player will be supplied for those who need to sing with a background track. Performing a song from “Hairspray” is acceptable but not necessary. Be prepared to read from a script and interact with other actors, and bring comfortable dancing shoes for choreography auditions.
