CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Reed Manke's 50-yard touchdown pass with 54 seconds left capped a flurry of late scoring and gave North Dakota a 35-31 win Saturday over Northern Iowa.
North Dakota (2-0) had a 21-16 lead before the teams combined for four touchdowns in the final five minutes.
Northern Iowa (1-1) was on the verge of a second straight win after Eric Sanders threw a 20-yard TD pass to Johnny Gray for a 31-28 lead with 1:27 left. Thirty-three seconds later Manke tossed the game-winning score to Weston Dressler.
Northern Iowa is North Dakota's first Division I-AA opponent since a 1985 contest at Northern Arizona, where the Sioux lost 41-0. North Dakota is a Division II program.
