POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard and Liberty:
GIRARD
Sept. 1
Theft/criminal damaging: A woman in the 400 block of East Kline Street reported someone broke into her vehicle and damaged its hood before taking a stereo system.
Theft: A neighbor called police after someone stole gasoline from a van in the 500 block of North Ward Avenue.
Stolen property: Charges were pending against a woman, 31, and a man, 36, both of Girard. Police said the car the pair was in on North Ward Avenue had been stolen.
Sept. 2
Theft: A woman in the 100 block of East Main St. reported the theft of her son's $200 bicycle.
Sept. 3
Arrest: While responding to a report of people screaming in the 600 block of Washington Avenue, officers arrested a 45-year-old Girard woman on one count of disorderly conduct.
Sept. 4
Domestic violence: Police filed charges against a Girard man, 37, based on a complaint by his girlfriend, who alleged the man twisted her left leg and ankle and slammed her to the floor. The woman was taken to the hospital for a possible broken wrist and other injuries.
Sept. 5
Domestic violence: Police arrested a 25-year-old Stull Avenue man at his residence on a domestic violence charge. The man's girlfriend said he choked her several times.
Sept. 6
Assault: A Washington Avenue man told police a Girard man pushed him during an argument at a McQuaid's Service Center, 307 S. State St.
LIBERTY
Aug. 31
Burglary: The U.S. Marshals Service handed over to Liberty authorities a 20-year-old Boardman man at a BP gas station, 2703 Belmont Ave. He was wanted on a warrant from Liberty charging him with burglary.
Theft/recovered property: A Marla Lane man reported two lawn mowers missing before the items were found at a Scott Lane residence.
Sept. 1
Auto theft: A man in the 4100 block of Logan Gate Road reported the theft of his 1990 Buick.
Arrest/drugs: After stopping his vehicle on state Route 193, police arrested a 34-year-old Youngstown man on warrants charging him with passing bad checks and theft. A charge of drug possession was added after officers said he had suspected marijuana.
Theft/vandalism: A man discovered someone had disconnected wires near a cellular phone tower in the 1200 block of Trumbull Avenue and removed two bars of copper.
Criminal mischief: Someone tossed eggs at a home in the 3800 block of Fifth Avenue.
Sept. 2
Theft: A man in his mid-60s stole five 16-ounce bags of tobacco and a cigarette-making machine from Smoker Friendly, 3814 Belmont Ave.
Theft: A worker at Miller's Towing Service, 4100 Belmont Ave., reported two transmissions and a motor had been removed from a box truck. The theft came to $1,000.
Sept. 3
Arrest: A 41-year-old Hubbard man was apprehended at a Speedway gas station, 4210 Belmont Ave. He was accused of failing to appear in court to answer a domestic violence charge.
Theft: A woman reported her cellular phone stolen while at Shaker's Bar & amp; Grill, 4520 Belmont Ave.
Theft/criminal damaging: A woman came out of Shaker's Bar & amp; Grill and found a passenger-side window to her Jeep had been torn. A makeup bag, 200 compact discs and a cellular phone were taken.
Burglary: A man returned to his apartment in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive and noticed a bedroom window was open and a screen was damaged. Stolen were a DVD player, 40 DVDs, a Sony PlayStation 2 game system and five PlayStation 2 games, for a loss of about $1,000.
Sept. 5
Theft: A woman in the 1700 block of Naylor-Lloyd Road accused a Girard man, 37, of stealing $200 from her.
Arrest: After saying they saw an inebriated person walking on Belmont Avenue, police picked up a 45-year-old Youngstown man on charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Sept. 6
Domestic violence: Officers took a 46-year-old man into custody at his North Gate Road residence. The man was charged with domestic violence after his girlfriend said he threatened her with a knife during an argument.
