Battles leads way in Rayen's victory



The Tigers rolled past Castalia Margaretta, 41-12.
CASTALIA -- Sal Battles gained 124 yards on nine carries, which included touchdown runs of 28 and 30 yards Friday as the Rayen High football team defeated Castalia Margaretta 41-12.
Battles completed 7-of-10 passes for 80 yards, including TD strikes to Tomaz Hilton for 33 yards and to Will Hopkins for 8 yards
Thornton rushed 21 times for 100 yards, which included TD runs of 8 and 1 yards and he also ran over three two-point conversions for the Tigers (2-1).
The Tigers limited the Polar Bears (1-2) to 15 yards on 23 carries. Margaretta was 14-of 27 passing for 97 yards.
Poland 35,Wilson 14
POLAND -- Carl Davanzo and Jared Morrell each scored two touchdowns for Poland.
Davanzo rushed for 110 yards in 19 carries, while Morrell tallied on a pair of 6-yard runs. Trent Vallinger had a game-high 112 yards rushing in 12 carries while quarterback Chris Lovell was 8-for-9 passing for 82 yards.
Greg Sabol also scored for Poland (1-2) on an 8-yard run, while Ryan Gill was 5-for-5 on extra-point attempts.
Rashad Robinson scored two touchdowns for Wilson (0-3), returning a kickoff 89 yards for his first score, then running back a blocked field goal 72 yards for another TD.
Robinson also caught three passes for 93 yards and rushed for 17 yards in five carries to wind up with 271 all-purpose yards.
Wilson quarterback Lamar McQueen completed 8-for-11 passes for 97 yards and added 42 yards rushing in 11 carries.
Youngstown Christian 20,Newbury 19 OT
CANFIELD -- Randy Triplett hit Eddie Gonda with a 5-yard scoring pass on fourth-and-5 in overtime to tie the game, and then Gonda kicked the game-winning extra point for Youngstown Christian (3-0).
Newbury scored first in overtime on Darryn Boyd's 1-yard plunge to snap a 13-13 regulation tie, but Newbury failed on the extra-point attempt.
Triplett finished with two touchdown passes and went 12-for-25 for 135 yards. Triplett hit Gonda on a 25-yard TD pass in the second quarter, and then fired an 8-yard pass to Gonda, who lateraled to Toba Olarewaju, who ran the final 65 yards for a TD in the third quarter.
Gonda finished with six catches for 67 yards and also kicked an extra point, while Olarewaju rushed for 76 yards in seven carries.
Boyd wound up with three TDs for Newbury (1-2) and rushed for 156 yards in 33 carries. John Ray was 6-for-10 passing for 80 yards for Newbury.
Southeast 34,Waterloo 14
ATWATER -- Gary Allen ran 13 times for 124 yards and a touchdown to lead Southeast (2-1). Alex Blake completed 10 of 12 passes for 192 yards and threw a 74-yard touchdown to Ben Kobos.
Southeast held a 439-318 edge in total yards.
