City to discuss forming fire district

HUBBARD -- City officials will continue discussion next month about possibly forming a fire district, Councilman Raymond Moffitt said.
Moffitt told city council members during a caucus Tuesday that he'd attended a public meeting earlier in the day to discuss a possible fire district with Hubbard, Brookfield and Liberty departments.
Moffitt said the discussion is preliminary, and to consider such a move the city would have to seek a fire levy.
Mayor Art Magee also said during the caucus he would contact ambulance company officials to schedule a meeting with either the safety committee or the entire council.
Council members are concerned about the response times from the Pennsylvania ambulance company the city is using. They said response times average 24 minutes and range from 10 to 60 minutes.
Council members were particularly concerned that the quickest response time was 10 minutes.
Some members said that during a call in June the family of a woman who fell in her home called 11 different ambulance companies before finding one that was able to respond. When that ambulance arrived, an hour had passed since the family made the first call.
Magee said he is disappointed in the response times of the Pennsylvania company, because he recommended the service.
