Western Reserve rolls again



The unbeaten Blue Devils crushed Newcomerstown.
NEWCOMERSTOWN -- Brandon Moherman threw four touchdown passes Friday to lead the Western Reserve High football team to a 47-0 rout of Newcomerstown.
Two of Moherman's scoring tosses were to Nate Lude covering 53 and 12 yards for the undefeated Blue Devils (2-0).
Moherman's other scoring passes were to Matt Kalbfell for 26 yards and Chris Truitt for 12 yards.
Also for the Blue Devils, Jason Lude tallied on a 40-yard run, Billy Speece on a 13-yard dash and Paul Henderson on a 41-yard pass interception.
Moherman finished with 188 yards passing by completing 10 of 13.
Jason Lude led Western Reserve's ground attack with 87 yards rushing in six attempts, while Speece added 42 yards in four runs and Moherman 35 yards in 10 attempts. Nate Lude had three pass catches in all for 73 yards.
Columbiana 14,Leetonia 7
COLUMBIANA -- Joe Winters rushed for 124 yards on 16 carries, which included touchdown runs of 40 and 50 yards, as Columbiana High prevailed at Firestone Stadium.
John Williams scored on a 3-yard run to give Leetonia a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Jake Kruetel rushed 15 times for 62 yards to pace the Bears (0-2).
Mineral Ridge 33,Grand Valley 13
MINERAL RIDGE -- A.J. Zitello scored three touchdowns on runs of 55, 34 and 42 yards and rushed for 191 yards in 20 carries to lead Mineral Ridge.
Nick Dominic also led the Rams (2-0) by catching a 17-yard scoring pass from Joey Miller and kicking a pair of field goals of 37 and 22 yards and three extra points.
Miller finished with 34 yards passing on 4-for-7.
Lisbon 36,Minerva 7
MINERVA -- Steve Tsilimos threw three touchdown passes, powering Lisbon to its second win of the season.
Tsilimos, who finished 9-of-11 from 115 yards, hooked up with Vince Browne on scoring strikes of 7 and 17 yards, and with Zack Freeland covering 11 yards. Dana Rose and Brian Flory scored on 11-yard runs in the first half for the Blue Devils, who held the Lions (0-2) to 96 yards total offense.
Windham 28,McDonald 20, OT
MCDONALD -- Cody Fincham's third touchdown of the game on a 1-yard plunge in overtime and his conversion dash lifted Windham past McDonald.
McDonald (1-1) had tied the score in the third quarter at 20-20 on Matt Krumpak's 4-yard strike to Scott Sentner and Jack Breegle's extra-point kick.
Fincham's other two TDs were on runs of 12 and 49 yards, and he finished with 210 yards rushing in 36 carries. His brother, Brent Fincham, contributed 81 yards in 18 carries, including a 1-yard scoring plunge.
Krumpak also threw two other TD passes to Matt Firment covering 34 yards and Joe Witkoski for 53 yards.
Krumpak wound up with 168 yards in the air on 9-for-14 with two interceptions.
Mogadore 40,Springfield 26
MOGADORE -- Quarterback Nate Schuler completed 16 of 26 passes for 263 yards for the Tigers (1-1). One was a 68-yard scoring pass to Andy Richey while another was a 6-yarder to Corey Cunningham.
Schuler also rushed for 63 yards on 10 carries including a 9-yard touchdown. Cunningham caught 10 passes for 128 yards while Richey had two receptions for 69 yards.
Creston Norwayne 47,Lowellville 20
LOWELLVILLE -- Three players turned in top offensive games for the Rockets (0-2).
Senior John Calderone ran 20 times for 123 yards and touchdowns covering 19 and 12 yards. Also, junior Vince Travaline rushed 11 times for 98 yards and a 45-yard touchdown.
Lowellville quarterback Joe DePasquale ran nine times for 61 yards and completed five of 10 passes for 64 yards.
Southern 33,Malvern 7
SALINEVILLE -- Nick Puckett rushed for 297 yards on 27 carries, which included touchdown runs of 3, 8 and 32 yards. Bryant Nester tallied on a 2-yard run and Nathan Melhern on a 30-yard run for the Indians (2-0).
