BEDFORD -- Jake Klinger kicked a 33-yard field goal and Eric Ochletree scored on a 1-yard run, leading Mathews over Cleveland Central Catholic at Bedford Bearcat Stadium. Klinger's field goal gave the Mustangs the lead in the second quarter and Ochletree scored the TD in the third quarter. The Mustangs gained 126 yards rushing and 13 passing. Cleveland Central Catholic had 105 rushing yards and 19 passing.
SOCCER
Fitch 3, Ursuline 2
YOUNGSTOWN -- Joe Sebaugh, Nick Bowlen and Matt Savko each had one goal, Brad Hrinko two assists and goalie Jason Haseley 10 saves to lead Fitch (2-0) over Ursuline in a boys game. Vlad Lungu scored one goal for Ursuline (2-3) while Fitch inadvertently scored a goal for the Irish. Goalie Nick Celio had 13 saves for Ursuline.
Boardman 6, Hubbard 0
HUBBARD -- Six players scored goals for Boardman (2-1-1) in a girls game. Jamie Avona, Lea Byers, Chloe Zidian, Jenn Libbey, Katie Stoll and Breanne Romeo each scored a goal for the Spartans. Boardman outshot the Eagles 34-11.
Akron Hoban 2, Ursuline 1
AKRON -- Senior center midfielder Geralyn Tondo-Steele scored first 10 minutes into the second half, but Julia Peterson and Tricia Kline followed with goals for Akron Hoban (2-0). Hoban had 20 shots to Ursuline's 11 with Irish goalie Dana Hinebaugh making 18 saves. Ursuline is 0-2.
Poland 6, West Branch 1
BELOIT -- Maureen Malone and Kelly Storkel each scored two goals for the Bulldogs (3-0). Sam Robertson and Kasey Eckman each added one. Malone had two assists. Sam Stanich had three saves. Emily Rekolt scored the goal for the Warriors (1-2) on an assist by Liz Craig.
Howland 2, Green 0
GREEN -- Senior Melissa Kohn and sophomore Megan Long scored second-half goals for the Tigers (3-0-1) against the defending district champion. Kaylin Hovance and Kohn recorded assists and goalie Meagan McLaughlin picked up seven saves. Green is 3-2.
VOLLEYBALL
Southeast 21-25-25,West Branch 25-19-14
BELOIT -- Karli Kitzmiller scored 14 points with 11 assists to spark West Branch in a loss to Southeast. Kelsey Wartluff had six points, nine kills, four blocks and two assists. Amanda Daniels had 10 points. The Pirates are 4-0.
West Branch 25-25, Chaney 12-15
BELOIT -- Sammie Snyder and Kitzmiller each scored 13 points for the Warriors (2-3). Wartluft had six kills, two blocks and four assists.
Salem 23-25-25-19-15, Boardman 25-19-19-25-11
SALEM -- Amy Scullion led the Quakers (3-0) with 19 kills, three tips, three aces and four blocks. Brittany Gregory had 13 kills and five blocks. Sarah Brobeck had 10 kills, four tips, three aces and a block. Courtney Schiffauer led the Spartans (2-3) with 14 kills and 12 blocks. Danielle Bletso had 13 kills and nine blocks.
