Man pleads innocent in shootings

CLEVELAND (AP) -- A Cleveland man has pleaded innocent in the shooting deaths of a Cleveland State University professor and a building superintendent in an apartment building where there had been complaints about loud music.
Jacob Cifelli, 29, is charged with two counts of aggravated murder in the deaths of Masumi Hayashi and John Jackson. Cifelli was held without bond Friday after entering innocent pleas in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.
Hayashi, a photography professor, was found shot to death in her third-floor apartment Aug. 17. Jackson, the building's superintendent, was found near the ground floor on inside steps.
Residents had complained about Cifelli's music being played through a powerful sound system with large speakers, police said.
In a separate case in November, police caught Cifelli wandering the neighborhood carrying a 30-inch sword, according to records.
He was convicted of carrying a dangerous weapon and fined $750, which he paid in part. On the day of the slayings, a judge issued a warrant for Cifelli for failing to pay the balance of the fine.
