4-H king and queen are crowned

The 2006 Outstanding Youth were also announced.

CANFIELD -- The Canfield Fair recognized youth for their achievements at an afternoon ceremony near the grandstand.
A 4-H king and queen, Andrew Goddard and Heather Moff, were chosen Thursday from a royal court of eight.
Goddard is the son of Jerry and Jane Goddard of Boardman. A member of Kreative Kids 4-H Club, he has been in the program for 11 years. He is a sophomore at Youngstown State University, where he is studying engineering.
Moff, a Boardman High School graduate, is the daughter of Greg and Lori Moff, of Canfield. In 4-H for 12 years, she is a member of the Beaver Zippers Club and the Dairy Club. She is attending Ohio State University.
Janice Hanna, a 4-H educator, told the crowd that the winners have to have a well-rounded 4-H background and have to be well-spoken to represent 4-H in a positive light in the community.
Moff said her fondest memories of 4-H include "the friends I've met" and showing her dairy cows. For Goddard, they are of 4-H camp and the fair.
Outstanding Youth
The Junior Fair Board also chose two Outstanding Youth from a field of 13 candidates representing Boy Scouts, Future Farmers of America, Grange, Girl Scouts , 4-H, Camp Fire USA and the Farm Bureau. The winners are Tiffany Talarico and Daniel Johnson.
Talarico is the daughter of Carl and Shari Talarico, of Austintown. A member of the Lucky Llamas 4-H Club, she has been in the program for nine years. She has held offices in the Rabbitears 4-H Club and is now vice president of the Bunnie Buddies. She has shown rabbits for nine years and llamas for five years. She also is a member of the Farm Bureau and is studying nursing at YSU.
Talarico said her best memories are working hard and seeing the ribbons to know that the work paid off. She also said she was glad to have the chance to develop skills that will help her in her future.
Johnson has been a Boy Scout for 11 years. He is the son of Mark and Mary Johnson and is a senior at Western Reserve High School. He just completed his Eagle Scout project at the Ellsworth VFW Hall, which was a memorial walkway to honor local veterans. He also is a member of the junior fair board, 4-H and the Farm Bureau. He plans to attend the University of Akron to major in culinary arts.
Johnson said his best memory is of hiking 64 miles through the New Mexico mountains at Philmont, a Boy Scout camp.
Other winners
Other awards and scholarships were handed out.
4-H flower box winners included the Friendly Farmers, first place; Western Reserve Rangers, second; and Goshen Little Buddies, third, in the recycling category; The Country Kids and Critters in the Patriotic category; Farm Pets in the Fair Days category; and Youngstown Tailwaggers, first place, and Mahoning County Pampered Pups, second, in the original category.
The Jean Craig Award for community service went to Lucky Llamas 4-H Club, first place; Western Reserve Rangers, second; and the North Jackson Corral Crew in third.
Pop Shop $500 scholarships were awarded to Khristine Krcelic, of Springfield Township; Carol Ann Pitcairn, of Berlin Station; Rachel Stanwood, of Columbiana; and Tiffany Talarico.
4-H Alumni Educational Awards went to Heather Moff; Matthew Kellgreen, of Boardman; Tiffany Talarico; Rachel Stanwood; and Brianne Whitmer of Green Township.
Darrel Bacon $750 scholarship winners are Olivia Myers, of Berlin Center, and Meagan VanBrocklin, of Boardman.
The 2006 Sheep and Wool representative is David Moliterno, of Canfield.
