Board seeks replacement levy in May

McDONALD -- The board of education will go back to the voters in May to seek a replacement levy for general permanent improvements.
The board would seek about 2 mills to generate $61,728 annually to replace a levy that will expire this year, and also 2.5 mills additional to generate an estimated $187,516 increase.
The increase would allow the district to finance construction of a new football stadium, all-weather track, make improvements to lockers in the high school and replace bleachers in the gymnasium.
The actual millage amount will be determined by the county auditor's office.
Treasurer Thomas Radabaugh said the millage was reduced for the sports project because of the recent countywide tax revaluation, which raised property values in the district.
Voters turned down the first request for a sports complex, for 4.9 mills to generate a total of $248,462, in November by a 747 to 708 margin.
Radabaugh noted if the issue does not pass in May, the board will have to go back to the voters at least for a renewal of the 2 mills in existing general permanent improvement tax.
