WRESTLING Fitch's Jameson still is undefeated (18-0)



ALLIANCE -- Fitch High sophomore Tony Jameson, who won the Division I state 103-pound wrestling championship last year in Columbus, served notice that he will be challenging for the 119 crown this year.
Jameson made that clear as he decisioned Daniel Kolodsik for the 119 title in the 20th Top Gun tournament Saturday in Alliance High School's gymnasium to stay undefeated.
Jameson (18-0) defeated five opponents during the two-day event, with 440 athletes from 38 schools competing in 13 weight classes.
He reached the title match with a 12-4 decision over Tommie Grazel of Mansfield Madison.
Powell also unbeaten (17-0)
Justin Powell of Boardman opened the tournament Friday by pinning two opponents in the 215 division to also remain undefeated.
Powell (17-0) then beat Ran Nachtrab 9-2 of the defending Eastwood team champs and won the championship with a 9-2 decision over Derek McCluggage of West Holmes.
Sam Nighman of Painesville Riverside decisioned Joe Molina of Boardman (16-6), 9-2, for fifth place at 119.
In a 135-pound match, Anthony Wills of Boardman lost a 9-2 decision to Brice Edwards of Mansfield Madison to finish sixth. Wills (18-4) posted a 3-2 record during the meet.
Fitch senior Nick Bodnar lost a tough 7-5 overtime decision to Jedd Moore of Mount Vernon for the 140-pound championship.
Bodnar (16-2) won two matches Friday, then defeated Doug Deak of Madison 4-0 Saturday in the quarterfinals and Colton Collett of West Holmes 9-8 in the semifinals to earn his spot in the title match.
Pankewicz goes 5-2
Fitch's J.J. Pankewicz posted a 5-2 record in the meet. Pankewicz (17-6) worked his way through the losers' bracket, then lost to Kyle Henry of Claymont 9-4 to finish fourth in the 160 weight class.
Brian Cramb of Boardman decisioned Tyler Hawkins of West Holmes 2-1 in a tough overtime match to place fifth in the heavyweight (275) division.
He was pinned by Hawkins in 2 minutes, 56 seconds in a second-round match.
The Spartans' athlete decisioned Josh LeFerver of Orrville in a first-round match, then decisioned LeFerver again 6-1 in a losers bracket match.
Eastwood defending its crown with 212 1/2 points. Boardman placed sixth with 119 1/2, Fitch was seventh with 118 and Salem 24th with 53 1/2.
