Howland defeats Struthers for first conference victory



STRUTHERS -- Ellie Shields scored 23 points and Alexa Williams added 19 as the Howland High girls basketball team won its first Metro Athletic Conference game of the season, defeating Struthers 76-38 on Wednesday.
Carly Sabat added eight points for the Tigers (9-3, 1-2), who are ranked 15th in Division II in the first Associated Press poll.
Howland led 41-17 at halftime.
Liz Valerio scored 16 points to lead Struthers (6-5, 2-1).
Southeast 56, Akron Springfield 22
RAVENNA -- Hannah Harnar scored 23 points and Megan Wain added for Southeast, which took a 31-14 lead at halftime.
Jessica Lange scored seven points for the Spartans.
