Board appoints officers and foundation trustees

NORTH LIMA -- The South Range Board of Education has appointed Marilyn Weaver board president.
At a meeting this week, the board also appointed Ralph Wince vice president, and swore in new members John Fromel and Delaine DeChellis, as well as Wince, who was re-elected in November.
The board appointed Weaver and middle school principal Al Toth to serve as trustees for the South Range Schools Foundation, a charitable organization that helps raise funds for academic programs for the district. Weaver and Toth replace Wince and former elementary school principal Steve Krivan, who retired last year.
The foundation has nine trustees, including the two chosen to represent the district.
National certification
In other matters, the board recognized middle school teacher Dacia Allen, who recently earned her National Board of Teaching Standards Certification. The certification qualifies a teacher to teach in any state in the country. Allen is the second teacher at South Range to obtain national certification. Laura Witmer, who is also nationally certified, is the school district's coordinator of curriculum and instruction.
The board's next meeting will be in February.
