BOXING Boone to fight Friday in Tampa

The Youngstown middleweight is set to meet Willie Lee.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown middleweight boxer Darnell Boone must feel like he is living a double life.
His family moved to Georgia recently to a suburb of Atlanta, but he still calls Youngstown his home and is loyal to Jack Loew his longtime trainer at the Southside Boxing Club.
Since he turned pro, he is also managed by Loew and Jim "Tank" DiCioccio.
The problem is that when Boone goes home to Georgia to his family, his training is minimal or not up to Loew's standards.
So when there is preparation time for a fight, Loew believes the fighter's place is in the Southside gym. He also feels Boone is extremely talented and is naturally at his best when in top shape.
He'll have to be in top shape for this Friday's bout with Willie Lee at the Ala-Carte All-event Pavilion in Tampa, Fla.
One of seven fights
The six-round junior middleweight bout is one of seven fights on a card presented by Starlight Promotions. Lee, a southpaw fighting out of St. Petersburg, Fla., is 14-3 with 10 knockouts.
Boone, who has basically been a road warrior since turning pro, is 7-3-1 with four knockouts.
DiCioccio will accompany Boone and Loew to Tampa which Loew says "is good because Tank has a better motivating effect on Darnell."
Both managers feel that Boone is extremely talented, but that he holds back with a belief that he must conserve energy in a fight and this has cost him close decisions in road fights.
"This is another big opportunity for Darnell," Loew said. "We feel that he can beat anybody, but his problem at times is not his talent, but his conditioning.
"When he comes in at top shape, he is a top grade middleweight or super middleweight."
