No. 4 North Carolina 90, Miami 57
CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Ivory Latta scored a game-high 21 points, including four three-pointers in the first 6:58 of the game to lead North Carolina. Latta's early scoring spree enabled the Tar Heels to open a 22-6 lead and were never threatened in the second Atlantic Coast Conference game of the season for both teams. Reserve Alex Miller replaced Latta after the Tar Heels' quick spurt and connected on three three-pointers to help North Carolina (15-0, 2-0) increase its advantage to 35-11 with 9:06 remaining in the first half. Miller finished with 12 points. North Carolina made 10 three-pointers in the first half and led 50-23. The Tar Heels finished with 13, one short of the school record set against Navy in 1991. Erlana Larkins was the third Tar Heels player to finish in double figures, finishing with 10 points. Melissa Knight led Miami (11-3, 1-1) with 14 points.
Iowa 75, No. 9 Michigan State 64
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Freshman Megan Skouby scored a season-high 27 points and Crystal Smith added 18 for Iowa. Skouby dominated the Spartans' zone defense with turnaround jumpers and hook shots, finishing 12-for-20 from the field. Iowa's defense forced 21 turnovers and held Michigan State to 4-for-16 on 3-point attempts. The Spartans (12-4, 2-1 Big Ten) held a 29-27 halftime lead before Skouby sparked the Hawkeyes with 19 second-half points on 6-for-6 shooting. The Hawkeyes (10-5 overall, 3-1) had a 10-0 run early in the second half to build a 46-36 lead. Liz Smith led Michigan State with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Lindsay Bowen added 13 points. Crystal Smith was scoreless through the first 12 minutes before helping Skouby in a second-half scoring barrage. Smith hit a jumper with 7:05 left in the first half to give the Hawkeyes their first lead at 20-19. She hit two others during a 10-2 run that padded Iowa's their lead to 22-19.
No. 17 Minnesota 69, Indiana 64
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Jamie Broback scored a season-high 26 points and Kelly Roysland tied her career high with 19 points as No. 17 Minnesota held off Indiana. Indiana (8-7, 2-2 Big Ten) overcame a 12-point deficit in the first half and took its last lead at 41-39 on a fast-break basket by Jenny DeMuth 7 minutes into the second half. Two baskets by Broback then started a 13-3 run as the Gophers (10-3, 3-0) took the lead for good. DeMuth led Indiana with 18 points.
