Ex- county official faces prison term

WARREN -- The convicted former Trumbull County maintenance director will be sentenced on theft in office and money laundering charges later this month, the county prosecutor's office said.
Tony Delmont, convicted of bribery, theft in office and money laundering in April 2004, will be sentenced Jan. 27 and faces one to 10 years in prison, said Chris Becker, assistant prosecutor. The case involved the county paying exorbitant prices for supplies, with kickbacks going to vendors and others involved in the scheme.
Becker said Delmont appeared for a hearing Monday before Judge Peter Kontos in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court, and it will be continued Jan 27.
Delmont's health has been cited as a reason why legal cases against two other defendants in the purchasing probe have been delayed.
The prosecutor's office has previously said Delmont has cancer and is too ill to testify. Becker said Delmont was bald and "looked like someone undergoing chemotherapy. He's lost a lot of weight, too."
Becker said he didn't know whether Delmont is healthy enough to testify in cases against any other defendants.
