Residents must call for heating aid

YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning-Youngstown Community Action Partnership is scheduling appointments for the Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program through its interactive voice response system.
Emergency HEAP is in operation through March 31.
MYCAP officials said potential applicants must call to make an appointment before completing an application. Exceptions are individuals who already have had utilities disconnected or those whose primary heat source is bulk fuel.
MYCAP's administrative offices are at 101 E. Federal St. downtown.
Emergency HEAP provides assistance to low-income households that have had utility service terminated, face the threat of disconnection or have less than a 10-day supply of bulk fuel, officials said.
A one-time payment of $175 per heating season can be used to restore or retain services. Bulk fuel households are eligible for up to $450, and customers using wood or coal are eligible for up to $250.
For Emergency HEAP assistance, the 24-hour toll-free number is (866) 223-1125.
