CENTRAL HOCKEY LEAGUE SteelHounds suffer 5-2 defeat to Laredo

LAREDO, Texas -- In a deceiving final score, the Youngstown SteelHounds fell short against the Laredo Bucks, 5-2.
The Bucks (20-8-3) scored two goals in the final 47 seconds to pad the score, including the third goal of the night by Jeff Bes.
Frantisek Lukes finished with the game-winning goal and two assists. For the Bucks, it was their fifth straight win keeping a firm grip on first place in the Southeast Division.
Darryl Lloyd and Chris Richards scored goals for the SteelHounds (12-18-1), who fall to 1-4 on their six-game road trip.
Both teams generated some solid scoring chances in the first period as the Bucks finished with 14 shots on goal compared to 12 for the Hounds.
Laredo scored the first goal of the game on a shot by Bes that beat David St. Germain. Lukes and Chris Grenville drew the assists on Bes' 12th goal of the season scored at the 8:34 mark of the period.
SteelHounds tie contest
Youngstown tied the game at the 13:27 mark when Lloyd came back to haunt his old team, scoring his 13th goal of the season. J.F. Labarre and Chris Shaffer had the assists.
The Bucks regained the lead late in the first period with a power play goal by Bes, assisted by James Hiebert and Adam Rivet scored at the 18:24 mark.
St. Germain finished the period with 12 saves and David Lemanowicz made 11 saves.
The SteelHounds played strong in the second period with St. Germain making some big saves. Youngstown scored the only goal of the period while shorthanded when Jeff Christian picked off a pass and missed a shot. His rebound found Richards who wrapped the puck around the near post for his 12th goal of the season and the fifth shorthanded goal of the year for the Hounds.
The Bucks outshot Youngstown 12-10 in the period for a 26-22 lead after two periods.
Bucks regan lead
Each team competed hard in the third period with Laredo regaining the lead with a backhanded shot by Lukes for his third goal of the season at the 12:23 mark. Bes and Phillipe Lauze had the assists.
Laredo tacked on two more goals in the final minute, one on an empty-netter scored by Ladislav Kouba, his 11th of the season. Bes got the hat trick with a breakaway goal with just 14 seconds remaining.
The Bucks outshot the Hounds 13-6 in the game and led in the game 39-28.
St. Germain fell to 8-13-1 making 35 saves in the game and earning third star honors, while Lemanowicz stopped 26 shots improving to 7-1-1.
Road trip ends tonight
Youngstown concludes their six-game road trip tonight against the Fort Worth Brahmas (10-17-4). Face-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
