Boardman's Barringer wins 100 and IM event



In the girls division of the annual meet, Canfield placed third.
CANTON -- Boardman sophomore Mike Barringer took the 200 individual medley in 2 minutes, 5.87 seconds and the 100 freestyle (50.28) as he helped the Spartans place second with 369 points in the Northeast Aquatic Conference championships Saturday at C.T. Branin Natatorium.
Canton GlenOak captured the title with 385.
Conner O'Halloran took the 50 freestyle (21.91) for the Spartans.
Barringer, Dave Shilling, Brian Worhatch and O'Halloran took first place in the 400 freestyle relay (3:19.18).
Kenny Drombosky, Shilling, Mark Kuntzman and Chad DeAngelo took the 200 freestyle relay (1:32.99).
Worhatch placed second in the 100 butterfly (54.19). O'Halloran, DeAngelo, Warhatch and Barringer placed second in the 200 medley relay (1:41.18).
Canfield swimmers
Sophomore Eric Davis took first place in the 200 freestyle (1:47.34) as Canfield placed fourth with 335 points.
James Hunter finished second in the 200 freestyle (1:49.26) for the Cardinals. Hunter, David Braman, Ryan King and Davis finished second in the 400 freestyle relay (3:21.72). Jordan Graham, Travis Kneen, Matt Carlozzi and Davis were second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:33.06).
A field of 18 schools competed in the annual meet.
In the girls division, Canfield placed third with 260 points in the meet won by Wooster with 430 points.
Margaret Matavich took second place in the 100 freestyle (56.32) and she was also second in the 50 freestyle (25.41).
Jackie Nentwick, Liz Pritchard, Bre Herock and Matavich finished second in the 200 medley relay (1:58.21).
The Boardman girls scored 194 to place sixth.
Both the Warren Harding boys (90) and girls (58) were eighth.
