Murder trial delayed after juror dismissal

Moore also will stand trial on charges of assaulting a Lisbon woman in 2003.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Opening statements in the aggravated murder trial of Darrin L. Moore were postponed until Monday because of last-minute technicalities, said Judge James C. Evans of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
An alternate juror was dismissed Thursday morning after she told Judge Evans that her employer would not pay her while she served jury duty. The judge and attorney for the prosecution and defense proceeded with selecting another alternate.
Moore, 19, of Willis Avenue, has pleaded innocent to charges of aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, two counts of receiving stolen property, escape and failure to comply with a signal of police.
'04 arrest
Moore was arrested in January 2004 for the December 2003 murder of Robert Smith, 29, of Eliot Lane, who was shot several times in the back and lower torso near a bar on North Garland Avenue on the city's East Side.
Police said Moore, who was driving a stolen car, led officers on a chase, ran into a fire hydrant on Albert Street, abandoned the car and fled on foot to Ross Industrial Park before he was apprehended.
Moore also will stand trial on charges of aggravated robbery, gross sexual imposition, kidnapping and felonious assault. He is accused of accosting a Lisbon woman in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Mathews Road in Boardman in September 2003.
Police said Moore was driving another stolen car when he led them in a pursuit from Youngstown to parts of Trumbull County.
Because he was 17 at the time, Moore was taken to the county's juvenile justice center. In October 2003, Moore complained of leg pain and was driven by a detention officer to Forum Health Northside Medical Center. After receiving treatment, Moore threw down his crutches and ran. He remained at large until he was arrested and charged with Smith's murder.
