Salem girls top Howland, 44-42, for seventh win; Struthers clicks



HOWLAND -- Sarah Ravelli and Natalie Davidson each scored nine points to lead the Salem High girls basketball team to a 44-42 victory over Howland Wednesday in the Metro Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
Zahra Scullion grabbed eight rebounds for Salem (7-1).
Carly Sabat had 13 points to lead Howland (8-2), including a 3-point goal that created the final score.
Alexa Williams added 12 points and as many rebounds to also pace the Tigers while Ellie Shields chipped in with 11 points.
The Tigers had a 30-23 rebounding advantage.
North Canton Hoover 48, Canfield 32
CANFIELD -- The Vikings turned in a strong defensive effort in turning back the Cardinals.
Canfield was held to 16 points in the first half and again 16 in the final two quarters.
Brittany Orban and Amber Witt combined to outscore the Cardinals with 20 and 16 points respectively.
Kate Popovec scored 12 points for the Cardinals and Bryanne Halfhill chipped in with 10 more.
Struthers 66, Poland 51
POLAND -- Halle Minchin-Shook poured in 20 points, including five 3-point goals, while Ashley Galbraith chipped in with 19 points to lead Struthers to victory in a MAC game.
Kasey Eckman scored 11 points and Ashley Tadla 10 to spark Poland (2-7, 0-1).
