Official: Wiring caused Sleepy Hollow fire

AUSTINTOWN -- A wiring malfunction ignited a fire that caused an estimated $100,000 worth of damage at Sleepy Hollow Sleep Shop furniture store and its contents at 5860 Mahoning Ave., said assistant Fire Chief Andrew Frost III.
The fire started around 10:30 p.m. Monday, he said. The Cardinal Joint Fire District from Canfield assisted Austintown's department.
Frost said the fire was caused by a wiring malfunction in a neon tube decoration around the building.
The fire was under control in about 10 minutes he said, but firefighters remained at the scene for about two hours. There were no injuries. No one was in the building when the fire started.
The owners of the store were unavailable to comment Tuesday.
In another, unrelated, fire matter, Frost also said a Nov. 28 fire that burned part of the back of a wooden building that houses four businesses at 1600 Raccoon Road was likely caused by kids setting leaves on fire. Those businesses are Tattoos, the Check 'n Go, State Farm Insurance and Subway.
