False-report charge
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A Sharon woman has been charged with filing a false police report after accusing a man of rape.
Rachel Ellen Kay, 22, of Linden Street also was charged with disorderly conduct, Pennsylvania State Police said. Police said this is the second time in a year that Kay has been charged with making false reports concerning sexual assault allegations. She has since pleaded guilty to a lesser charge on the first allegation, police said.
In the most recent charge, police said Kay falsely reported that she was raped by a 29-year-old New Castle man Nov. 30 in a field off of Lakewood-Neshannock Falls Road in Hickory Township.
Struthers meeting
STRUTHERS -- Struthers City Council will have a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. todayin council chambers. Anthony Protopapa Jr., president of council, will appoint council committees for 2006-07.
Austintown Inn robbery
AUSTINTOWN -- A clerk at the Austintown Inn, 5431 Seventy-Six Drive, reported an aggravated robbery on New Year's Day.
The clerk, 50, of Austintown, told police that a man came into the business at 8:22 a.m. Sunday and pointed a gun at her while she was sitting in the office doing work.
The robber's face was covered by a Halloween mask. He took $119.
PTA hall nominations
BOARDMAN -- Boardman Council PTA is seeking nominations for its annual PTA Hall of Fame Award.
The award, which is presented at the Founders' Day Luncheon on Feb. 21, is presented to a current or former PTA member who exemplifies the purpose and mission of PTA and has made a significant contribution to the health, safety or welfare of Boardman's children.

Rape case reset
BOARDMAN -- The case of a township man accused of trying to rape a 23-year-old Kent woman has been reset for next month.
Jamal Almasandeh, 33, of Glenwood Avenue will appear Feb. 7 in Mahoning County Court here. He's charged with attempted rape, a felony, and a misdemeanor charge of assault.
The victim told police that the assault occurred in November after she gave Almasandeh a ride home from Mountaineer Race Track and Casino in Chester, W.Va.
Fire investigations
YOUNGSTOWN -- Arson is suspected as the cause of a vacant-house fire at 128 W. Philadelphia Ave. at 3:04 a.m. Tuesday, said Lt. Kevin Johnson. He said the damage was set $31,000, a total loss.
A fire Monday evening at Hummel's Towing on Penn Avenue remains under investigation. Johnson said acetylene tanks exploded and fire burned through the roof. He said a wood burner in the garage will be checked to see if it started the fire. Damage was estimated at $14,000.
Impersonation charge
COITSVILLE -- Clifford Morris, 67, of East Glenaven Avenue, Youngstown is scheduled to be arraigned Friday morning in Campbell Municipal Court on charges of impersonating a peace officer, carrying a concealed weapon and obstructing official business.
Morris was arrested outside the WASN radio station on North Blaine Avenue around 2 a.m. Tuesday, where he said he was working security.
Police said Morris, who does not have a concealed carry license, had a loaded gun under his jacket and an Ohio State Police Constable badge that is nearly identical to badges worn by Youngstown police. The badge and gun were confiscated, and police told Morris that constables have no police powers.
