Defendant arrested after arriving late

YOUNGSTOWN -- Dion Davis wore a striped shirt and jeans Tuesday morning at Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, but Judge Maureen A. Cronin added some accessories -- handcuffs and leg chains.
Davis, 22, of Kendis Circle, was late for his appearance before Judge Cronin, who then issued a warrant for his arrest. Davis was apprehended once he arrived at the courthouse.
Davis told the judge he had been stalled by car problems, but Judge Cronin criticized him for not calling her court immediately to explain his situation.
Davis withdrew earlier innocent pleas and pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of aggravated burglary with a firearm specification, all from last Feb. 14, when he and co-defendant Marquise Denson robbed two people and broke into a Kendis Circle apartment.
Davis faces up to 33 years in prison, although Jay Macejko, an assistant county prosecutor, has recommended six years.
Judge Cronin told Davis that she will accept that recommendation as long as Davis stays out of trouble in Mahoning County jail between now and his sentencing date, which will be scheduled later.
