Canfield man faces two drug charges

CANFIELD -- A township man is charged with drug abuse and possession of drug-abuse instruments after a fire in his bedroom at 6321 St. Andrew's Drive, Apt. 12.
Mahoning County Sheriff's Department reported that George Panno, 43, set the room on fire Sunday after lighting a propane torch. He was playing with an electric igniter on the torch, the report said.
The sheriff's report said Panno admitted smoking crack cocaine several hours before the fire. He said he fell asleep and woke up to find his bed on fire.
Panno burned his hand and was treated at the scene.
The Cardinal Joint Fire District reported that the fire was contained in the bedroom and there was about $5,000 worth of damage. There are six apartments in the building, said fire Chief Robert Tieche.
