No. 1 Duke 65, Old Dominion 52
CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands -- Alana Beard scored 28 points as No. 1 Duke recovered from a slow start in the Paradise Jam. The Blue Devils (4-0) can make a three-game sweep of the round-robin tournament by beating Arkansas on Saturday.
Okeishia Howard had 16 points to lead Old Dominion (0-3), while Monique Coker had 12 points and 13 rebounds. Old Dominion shot 41 percent in the first half, the same number as the Blue Devils. Duke missed six of its first seven shots but used a 15-0 run to go ahead 19-6, holding the Monarchs without a field goal for five minutes. Coming off a 71-34 rout of Hampton in Thursday night's first game, the Blue Devils shot just 37 percent and missed nine free throws. ODU shot just over 40 percent.
No.2 Kansas St. 72, Temple 65
STANFORD, Calif. -- Nicole Ohlde had a season-high 28 points and 15 rebounds as second-ranked Kansas State rallied past Temple in the first round of the Stanford Invitational. Kendra Wecker added 16 points for the Wildcats (5-0). Megan Mahoney, who had 13 points and a season-high 11 rebounds, sank a short jumper with 3:29 remaining during a 10-0 run to give the Wildcats their first lead of the second half at 62-61. Wecker hit a 3-pointer a minute later and Kansas State began to pull away. Stacey Smalls had 22 points for Temple (3-1).
No. 3 LSU 87, Washington St. 50
MIAMI -- DeTrina White scored 14 points, and No. 3 LSU used two strong runs to beat Washington State in the Thanksgiving Classic. The Tigers (4-0) led 30-27 late in the first half when White scored eight points during a 13-2 run. Then LSU took a commanding lead by scoring the first eight points of the second half. Bianca McCall and Sarah Barrett scored 12 points apiece for Washington State (0-3). White, who scored her 1,000th career point in the first half, was 7-of-11 and grabbed five rebounds.
No. 4 Tennessee 136Puerto Rico-Mayaguez 26
CAROLINA, Puerto Rico -- After opening the season with three games against ranked opponents, No. 4 Tennessee enjoyed a 110-point breather. Gwen Jackson made all 14 of her shots and scored 28 points to lead the Vols in the first round of the San Juan Shootout. Jackson added 11 rebounds for the Vols (3-1), who also got 17 points from Brittany Jackson and 15 from Loree Moore. The Vols got off to a 9-0 lead before Puerto Rico-Mayaguez (0-4) got on the board. Jackson had 16 points and Tennessee held an 69-14 lead at the half. Then the Vols opened the second half by scoring 18 straight points. Tennessee hit the 100-point mark with 11:10 remaining.
No. 6 Purdue 93, Texas Christian 74
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Mary Jo Noon scored 23 points, and Erika Valek added 19 as sixth-ranked Purdue remained unbeaten by rolling over Texas Christian to win the Travelers Classic. The Boilermakers (4-0) also got 18 points from tournament MVP Shereka Wright and 12 from Lindsey Hicks. Texas Christian (2-2) was led by Candace Baldwin with 18 points. The Horned Frogs had no answer for Purdue's inside-out combination, and lost for the first time to a Big Ten opponent.
No. 11 North Carolina 82, DePaul 66
HONOLULU -- Coretta Brown scored 14 points, and No. 11 North Carolina made the defensive adjustments needed to shut down DePaul in the first round of the Rainbow Wahine Classic. La'Tangela Atkinson had her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds off the bench for the Tar Heels (3-0). The North Carolina defense forced the Blue Demons (1-1) to take 28 shots from 3-point range, making only seven. The Tar Heels held De Paul, which got 16 points nine rebounds from Jamie Smith, to just six points in the final seven minutes.
No. 17 Arkansas 78, Hampton 41
CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands -- Shameka Christon, Rudy Vaden and Cara Wright each scored 13 points to lead Arkansas past Hampton at the Paradise Jam tournament. Arkansas (4-0) held Hampton (1-2) to just 19-percent shooting from the field in the first half and 28 percent for the game. India Lewis had 11 points for Arkansas. Brendy Ellis led Hampton with 12 points.
No. 18 Boston College 64, Oregon 47
CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands -- Jessalyn Deveny had 25 points and eight rebounds to lead No. 18 Boston College over Oregon in the Paradise Jam. The game was close for the first seven minutes. Then the Eagles (3-0) went on a 16-7 run for the next six minutes of the half to take a 26-17 lead. The Ducks (1-3) closed the half with a 9-4 run of their own to cut the deficit to 30-26 at the half. Oregon got within three points at 35-32 with 15:41 left in the game, but the Eagles went on a 9-0 run in the next three and half minutes to take a 44-32.
No. 23 Oklahoma 90, Fordham 62
HONOLULU -- Maria Villarroel scored 30 points, and Theresa Schuknecht grabbed 10 rebounds in the opening round of the Rainbow Wahine Classic.
