COLUMBIANA COUNTY Red Cross auction focuses on reproduction of bike

Other items being auctioned include footballs autographed by Browns and Steelers players.
SALEM -- The American Red Cross, North Columbiana County Chapter, is featuring a classic bicycle reproduction as one of the offerings at its annual fund-raising auction.
Going to the highest bidder will be a reproduction of a 1948 Roadmaster Luxury Liner bicycle.
Ginger Grilli, the chapter's executive director, donated the bicycle for the "Holiday of Hope" auction, which is set to start at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Masonic Temple, 788 E. State St. Cost to attend is $5.
The bike
The chrome and red-paint bike being offered features whitewall tires, a battery-operated headlight, electric taillight and horn.
Retail value is $3,000, making it the most expensive item in the Red Cross auction this year, Grilli said.
Other items that will be bid upon to raise money include a football autographed by the Pittsburgh Steelers, another football autographed by Cleveland Browns player Anthony Henry and tickets to Cleveland Indians games.
Blood drive
The items were to be on display at the Masonic Temple during a blood drive being held there from 1 to 7 p.m. today.
Donors will receive free admission to the auction.
The Red Cross notes that the need for blood is great over every holiday and that Thanksgiving is no different.
An hour before Saturday's action, a buffet will be served featuring pastries and other items donated by local businesses and others.
Grilli noted that the Red Cross is not a government agency and depends entirely on donations to perform its work.
"The Holiday of Hope" is the chapter's major fund-raiser, she said.
