Man critical after fight
NILES -- A Greenville, Ohio, man was in critical condition this morning in a Warren hospital after being injured in a fight at a Niles eatery.
Police say Larry Marker, 43, was punched and fell to the floor and lost consciousness at BW3 about 11:36 p.m. Monday.
Roy Joseph Walls, 27, of Severn Court Southeast, Warren, was arrested at the scene on a charge of felonious assault. Police reports do not indicate what prompted the fight.
Charged in theft
HUBBARD -- Richard Hodnick, 45, of Struthers-Liberty Road, Campbell, has been charged by Hubbard Township police with the theft of equipment from a church.
Hodnick, who police said has a long criminal record, was charged today in Girard Municipal Court with receiving stolen property and possession of criminal tools.
Detective Mike Begeot said the truck Hodnick was driving was stopped about 3 a.m. Monday at Morningside and Jacobs roads.
Police found a mower and leaf blower stolen from Chestnut Ridge Church of God over the weekend.
The equipment were replacements from an earlier theft at the church, Begeot said.
Trash, leaf removal
WARREN -- City trash and leaf removal will be on schedule through Wednesday.
Thursday's collections will be done Friday, and Friday's will be Saturday. Questions may be directed to (330) 841-2561.
Hall of fame banquet
GIRARD -- The Girard Hall of Fame banquet is Saturday, starting with a social hour at 6:30 p.m. in Leo's Ristorante, 7042 E. Market St., Howland.
The inductees will be recognized during the Girard High School basketball game Friday.
Poinsettias for sale
GIRARD -- The Girard High School Robotics Team is sponsoring a poinsettia sale.
Deadline for orders is Monday. The plants come in red, white, pink or marble and are $8 for a 61/2-inch pot and $15 for a 71/2-inch pot.
Orders will arrive at the school Dec. 12 for pickup.

Probing theft of tools
NILES -- Police are investigating the theft and recovery of more than $12,000 in tools stolen from the construction site for the new middle school.
Companies associated with the construction also reported trucks and storage boxes broken into over the weekend.
Reports show Michael T. Lloyd of Akron reported his truck stolen Saturday. The truck was found by officers the same day with tools in it.
Reports also said the fence around the site had been cut with a hole large enough for a vehicle, then repaired.
Man reports attack
NILES -- A 21-year-old Niles man told police he was attacked and cut by another man for no reason.
The Circle Street man told police he was walking in front of Danny's Bar at East Park and Grant streets at 12:45 a.m. today. He said the man asked him about drugs, then sliced the right side of his face.
The attacker is described as black, about 5 feet 10 inches, 170 pounds, in his 20s or 30s and wearing a Dallas Cowboys coat and a black bandana with white spots.
Identity-theft program
HUBBARD -- The public library here will have a program on identity theft at 7 p.m. Monday.
The program consists of a video presentation by the Ohio attorney general's office and a question and answer period with members of the city and township police departments.

World AIDS Day event
NILES -- The Trumbull County Area AIDS Task Force will commemorate World AIDS Day on Sunday with a dinner program in Mollica's Banquet Center, 123 N. Main St.
Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30. Guest speaker is Jennifer Suhovecky Gallo, health education specialist for Warren City Schools.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the door.
